Texarkana College offers high-demand programs, flexible scheduling in Spring 2019
Texarkana College is now registering new and returning students for spring classes in a wide variety of program areas, including a number of high-demand careers that will contribute to the region’s economic development efforts.
“We offer 25 academic programs and 12 workforce programs,” said Dr. Donna McDaniel, Vice President of Instruction. “Whether you want to earn a one-year certificate and then go right into the workforce or earn an associate degree you can transfer to a 4-year institution, we have programs that fit everybody’s needs.”
McDaniel said one of the main things companies looking to relocate in Texarkana are looking for is an educated workforce, and TC’s programs help fill those gaps.
“Companies want to know that if they put roots down in the Texarkana area, there will be plenty of trained, skilled workers to hire in all areas—industrial, manufacturing, office and operations,” she said. “We involve our local industry partners in our program advisory committees so that they can feel confident that we’re teaching the exact skills they need their employees to have.”
TC’s high-demand degree and certificate offerings include:
- Air Conditioning/Heating & Refrigeration
- Associate Degree Nursing & ADN Transition
- Automotive Technology
- Business Administration
- Computer Technology & Information Systems
- Computer Networking & Networking Administrator
- Construction Technology
- Cosmetology
- Diesel Technology
- Electronics Technology & Instrumentation
- Electrician Technology
- Licensed Vocational Nursing
- Office Careers
- Pharmacy Technician
- Welding
In addition to academic and workforce programs, TC’s Community & Business Education Center offers noncredit training programs that prepare students for certifications in a short amount of time, such as the clinical medical assistant and professional truck driving programs.
“A lot of people don’t know what we mean by ‘noncredit,’” McDaniel said. “Basically, you don’t have to go through the typical college admissions process to register for these courses. They don’t award college credit, but they do provide intensive preparation for you to pass your certification exams and land a good job.”
Traditional financial aid is not available for noncredit courses, but funding opportunities may be available. For more information, contact Joanne Rose at (903) 823-3384.
Spring workforce classes begin on January 14, 2019, and academic classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019.
Spring students will have the opportunity to enroll in compressed 8-week classes and Saturday classes, in addition to TC’s traditional day, evening and online courses.
Prospective students can browse the spring schedule, explore programs, and learn about the application and registration process at texarkanacollege.edu/spring2019.
“If you’re thinking about going to college, this spring is the perfect time to start or start over,” McDaniel said.
