Texarkana College Music Department Shines at TMEA in San Antonio!

Texarkana College is excited to share that our talented music students made a significant impact at this year’s Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) convention in San Antonio! From February 12-16, students Chantal McCulloh, Sylmari Washington, Rebecca Richnow, William Graham, and Deric Kennedy represented TC in the prestigious two-year college all-state choir.

Under the guidance of clinician Dr. Gregory Gentry from the University of Colorado, the clinic culminated in a powerful performance at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center alongside over 130 students from across the state.

Not only did TC students perform, but they also showed leadership within the event. Rebecca Richnow served as an alto section leader, while Deric Kennedy delivered an incredible solo in Mozart’s Gloria from the Great Mass in C Minor. TC’s own Mary Scott Smith was the all-state pianist/accompanist, and Texarkana College proudly served as the Choral Coordinator for the event.

Additionally, Texarkana College’s own leadership team is now excited to announce that our Choral Coordinator, Marc-André Bougie has been elected President of the Texas Two-Year College Choral Directors Association (TTCCDA) for 2025-2026.

“The Texas Two-Year College Choral Directors Association (TTCCDA) is one of the most amazing musical organizations in Texas. It gives a yearly platform to music students from community colleges across the state to join in a performance at the TMEA conference in San Antonio under a different clinician every year,” stated Marc-André. “Dr. Gregory Gentry did an amazing job this year. I look forward to serving as TTCCDA President in 2025-2026, and I am excited to work with our fantastic team of directors and students.”

The TTCCDA continues to be one of the most vibrant musical organizations in Texas, providing community college students across the state with a platform to showcase their talents. Dr. Gregory Gentry’s leadership this year was nothing short of inspiring!

We are incredibly proud of our students and faculty for their hard work and dedication. Here’s to the bright future of Texarkana College’s music program and the incredible opportunities ahead!
