TC & A&M-Texarkana mourn the loss of three students
Over the weekend, a tragic accident occurred that claimed the lives of three area college students- Sofia George, Daniel Gonzalez, and Nathaniel Rodriguez. Our community has come together as an extended family to support their families, fellow students, their friends, and one another as we grieve this unimaginable loss. Sofia George was currently a Texarkana College student, and Daniel and Nathaniel, along with their friends who survived the crash, are students of Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
A candlelight vigil is being organized by Texas A&M University-Texarkana students for our community to honor the lives of those we have lost and to show support of those suffering. The vigil will take place on the lawn of the Texas A&M University-Texarkana campus in front of the University Center at 6:00 p.m. tonight (Monday, November 24, 2014). All Texarkana College students, faculty, staff, and members of our community are welcome to attend.
On-going grief support is available on both campuses for anyone needing support during this difficult time. At Texarkana College, Dr. Joan Strutton, our campus counselor, is available by appointment and can be reached by email at joan.strutton@texarkanacollege.edu. In addition, TC’s Department of Public Safety is available for any questions or additional support needed. Please call 903-798-3330 to reach TC’s Director of Public Safety, Jeff Cottingham.
Through our collective grief, let us continue to support one another and pay tribute to the precious lives that have been so tragically impacted by this accident.
Funeral services for Sofia George, age 21, will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer, Texas.
