TC Mourns the Death of Former Mathematics Instructor Margaret Rauch
Former Texarkana College mathematics instructor Margaret Rauch passed away on Saturday, June 3. Our deepest sympathy to Margaret’s friends and family during this difficult time of loss. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Father James West officiating. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Chapelwood Funeral Home.
“Margaret, aside from her incredible math-teaching abilities, was probably the kindest, most compassionate and caring person I’ve ever known,” said Dr. Cat Howard, Dean of STEM. “I met her as a student here in 1980, and since that time she has been a role model for me both as a teacher and as a person. She truly made this world a better place and will be greatly missed.”
Jamie Ashby, Associate Professor of Mathematics, said Margaret was a beloved math professor and co-worker at TC.
“She loved helping her students! Her door was always open, and the extra chair beside her desk was almost always occupied with a student because they knew she would be there for them until they really understood the material,” Jamie said. “I can’t begin to count the number of lives she impacted for good because of her dedication and talent. Margaret was a kind and gentle person who always had a smile on her face. She was the epitome of grace and professionalism. When you were around Margaret, you could just feel her inner joy and peace, and it made working with her a pleasure.”
