Mr. Fred Gilliam, along with representatives from Texarkana College and DeKalb ISD,  announced a new Texarkana College scholarship on March 10 to benefit students graduating from DeKalb High School.  The check presentation took place at 9 a.m. in the DeKalb ISD Administration Building Board Room.

Mr. Gilliam funded the endowed scholarship with $25,000 in memory of his wife, Sharon Gilliam.   Also in attendance were Mr. Gilliam’s daughter, Shanna Graham, and her husband Todd.  Mr. Gilliam’s son, Brian, was not able to attend.

“My wife and I moved here in 1962, and since that time, this community has been so good to us,” Gilliam said. “I am glad to be able to help students from our area further their educations.”

Mr. Gilliam formerly served as President of State Bank of DeKalb and currently serves on the board of State Bank. He has also served the DeKalb community through his participation on the board of DeKalb ISD and DeKalb City Council.

“We are so grateful to Mr. Gilliam for recognizing the impact an education can have and making an investment in our students,” said Katie Andrus, Director of the Texarkana College Foundation
