Free Safety Training at Texarkana College Offers Confined Space Course for Area Employees
Thanks to a grant from Texas Mutual Insurance Company, Texarkana College is offering a free 40-hour Confined Space safety training course beginning July 31. The course will offer essential safety training for employees of area businesses and industries free of charge at Texarkana College’s TC@TexAmericas Center site in New Boston, Texas, (Exit 206; Spur 86 off I-30 & Hwy 82).
“Texas Mutual Insurance Company awarded TC with a grant to fund high-quality safety training courses for local employers and employees,” said Scotty Hayes, TC@TexAmericas Center Director. “The Confined Space course will introduce participants to the basics of working in environments that have limited or restricted access for entry or exit. Some examples of confined spaces include but are not limited to underground vaults, tanks, storage bins, manholes, pits, silos, process vessels, and pipelines.”
Enrollment in the course is limited 20 students. The course will be held July 31-August 3 (Monday through Thursday) and is valued at $943 per student.
“TC knows employee safety is a number one priority for area employers, and we are grateful for the opportunity to offer this course to local businesses at no cost,” Hayes said. “There’s a lot of information to know to keep employees safe, and this opportunity provides a way to save hundreds of dollars yet be proactive in learning how to work in potentially hazardous environments. Students will learn about the physical, chemical and biological principles related to safely working with confined spaces and will also have hands-on experience with tri-pod extrication.”
Interested persons are encouraged to reserve space in the course as soon as possible due to limited number of seats. Space can be reserved by emailing the names and contact information of the students to Paula.Turner@texarkanacollege.edu or Susan.Bennett@texarkanacollege.edu or by calling 903-823-3162 or 903-823-3113.
