Adjunct Speech & Mass Communication

Texarkana College is seeking an adjunct Speech/Communication instructor to instruct students in accordance with college policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • In accordance with institutional accreditation requirements, Master’s degree (Doctorate degree preferred) in Speech or Mass Communication or a Master’s degree in related disciplines with 18 graduate hours

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrates effective teaching techniques adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
  • Demonstrates subject matter related to relevant topics and issues in the teaching discipline.
  • Displays effective planning, organizing, communication, interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
  • Effectively assists student learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with diverse student populations, families, and children.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using computer applications, classroom or other current learning technologies for effective teaching at the community college level.
  • Teaches active cooperative and learning strategies.
  • Collects, records, and analyzes data for decision-making.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrates ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.
  • Uses departmental Master Moodle shell, syllabi, and curriculum.

Experience:

  • Must be knowledgeable, capable of using current technology in the classroom, and able to teach effectively at a community college level.
  • Preferred experience in teaching community college level Speech / Communications.
  • Successful teaching experience.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Instructs students in the Speech Communication discipline. Provides learning activities that stimulates student involvement and encourages critical thinking.
  • Demonstrates creativity and innovation in the field, and service in the profession and/or the community.
  • Plans and organizes lesson plans, research and reference materials, syllabi, and other learning aids.
  • Meets deadlines and adheres to policies and procedures for paperwork, records, and documentation.
  • Teaches courses including compressed and accelerated learning formats.
  • Maintains an established schedule, including evening, weekend, and/or summer assignments.

Salary:

Commensurate within the Texarkana College pay scale for position.
