Texarkana College hosted its annual Spring Fling celebration on Thursday, April 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Pinkerton Center.
“This was the first year this event was held indoors,” said Lee Williams, Director of Recruitment.
TC has hosted Spring Fling in one form or another for the past 26 years.
Festivities for this year’s event included inflatables such as Twister, Bungee Basketball, Rock N Roll, a mechanical bull, and a live DJ. Free pizza, lemonade and cookies were provided to students who visited a minimum of 10 booths.
“Spring Fling is more than just inflatables and SGA elections. It’s an opportunity for TC students to come together before the Spring semester ends, to regroup, to have some fun, to collaborate and even start thinking about what they’re going to do for the next semester. It’s almost like a culmination event. It’s a fun event of culmination,” said Williams.
There was a total of 46 booths at Spring Fling. Campus clubs and organizations occupied 16 of those booths. The 30 remaining booths, were community vendors.
“Every year it grows. This year we have the largest number of outside folks coming in than we ever have before,” said Robert Jones, Dean of Students.
“I loved seeing how many opportunities there are for students to volunteer and become involved in causes that benefit our community,” said Chrystal Sloan, Behavioral Science major.
In conjunction with Spring Fling, the Student Government Association (SGA) held elections and the Texarkana College Library hosted an Edible Book Festival.
Despite a location change, due to possible rain, the Spring Fling was a huge success, with “close to 650 students plus vendors,” confirms Dean Jones.
“My favorite part of Spring Fling was riding the mechanical bull,” said Jesse Leon, Automotive Technology major.
“The music and the bull were the best parts,” said Sloan.
“You’re only limited when you come to Texarkana College in regards to what you want to do. The sky is the limit,” said Dean Jones.
