It’s that time again. It’s time to apply for scholarships. It’s not too early to take advantage of scholarship opportunities. Texarkana College offers many scholarships to incoming, current, and departing students.
Sean Daniel, a U.S. History major, said he believes that it’s important to apply for scholarships early.
“The earlier you apply, the earlier you get your name out to the people who control the scholarships,” Daniel said.
According to TC scholarship coordinator Madie Westmoreland, “It is important to apply early to ensure that you have met the application deadline and that you have turned in all the required documents.”
The type of scholarships offered vary.
The Presidential Scholarship is offered to graduating high school seniors. There are many scholarships available for current students such as the Faculty Association, Jake and Bessie Eldridge Memorial, Officer William Jason Sprague Memorial, and Retired Teacher Association.
In addition, the Jake and Bessie Memorial (transfer) scholarship can be used at any university in Texas. There are specific eligibility requirements you must meet for all of these scholarships. There are also scholarships specifically for Health Science majors and workforce students.
Westmoreland stated that the amount of students that receive scholarships varies each year depending on funding, but an estimate of 150- 200 students receive scholarships. That includes TC scholarships and scholarships from outside organizations, such as churches, businesses, and high schools.
Most of the scholarship deadlines are in April and students are notified by email if they received a scholarship or scholarships in early May. The list of scholarships is on the TC Website.
Westmoreland said that students can apply online or complete a paper application, all of which are on the TC scholarship page.
