TC Foundation receives $25,000 for nursing scholarship fund
Texarkana College students pursuing nursing degrees will soon have a new scholarship opportunity. Helen Floyd, in memory of her late husband, Dr. Ben J. Floyd, presented a $25,000 check to the Texarkana College Foundation to establish a presidential scholarship fund for nursing students. The check presentation ceremony took place on Wednesday, September 17 at 2 p.m. on the 2nd Floor of the Health Science Building on the Texarkana College campus.
“We are so honored to receive this generous gift from Mrs. Floyd to help our nursing students pursue their dreams,” said Katie Andrus, Texarkana College Foundation Executive Director. “By setting up the fund as an endowed presidential scholarship, not only does it ensure that students who demonstrate high academic standards are benefitting from the scholarship, but it also safeguards the funds through the TC Foundation to allow scholarships to be awarded in perpetuity.”
Prior to retirement, Dr. Floyd was a physician for Yarbrough-Floyd-Hunter Associates in Texarkana. He was a member of the American Medical Association, American Urological Society and American Board of Urology, as well as a Korean War Veteran of the Air Force. He was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin and the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston. He completed his residency in urology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
