Officer William Jason Sprague Memorial Scholarship reaches endowed status
Due to the outpouring of support from the entire community, the scholarship fund established in memory of fallen Texarkana, Texas police officer William Jason Sprague has reached endowed status. The memorial scholarship fund now stands at $27,350.
“The community came together to support not only our family, but also the field of law enforcement,” said Stephanie Sprague, the fallen officer’s widow. “This scholarship, established in memory of Jason and his sacrifice, will help students enter the field of criminal justice and earn higher education credentials to advance in their careers. We are overwhelmed and grateful for the contributions made toward the advancement of this scholarship fund.”
The Texarkana College Foundation will manage the funds and award scholarships from the interest earned on the endowment.
“By reaching endowed status, this scholarship will be a permanent source of funding for students interested in pursuing a degree in criminal justice at Texarkana College,” said Katie Andrus, Texarkana College Foundation Director. “This is one of TC’s most popular programs of study, and this investment in the future of our students will go a long way to help those in need of financial support. We could not be more grateful to the Sprague family and the community for establishing the memorial fund at Texarkana College.”
Sprague also noted that September 20, 2014, will be National Thank a Police Officer Day. She hopes that the community will rally in support of all police officers who sacrifice their safety every day to ensure a more secure community for us all.
