Modern look, fresh start

The Stilwell Humanities Building experienced an exciting renovation over the summer.

Mary Ellen Young, Dean of the Liberal and Performing Arts Division, said the facelift included new ceiling tiles in hallways and common areas, new flooring and paint in all classrooms and hallways.

“It also received new furniture in all areas from the seating area and pub-style tables in the foyer to the classroom furniture as well as the faculty office suite,” Young said. “The renovation was approved at the end of the spring semester.

“During the summer, the Humanities faculty relocated their classes to the Social Sciences building. The Humanities building has never been renovated since being built in 1979-1980.”

Young said the new furniture brightens the building and adds a modern touch to the building.

“The furniture accommodates students as tables and chairs are in most of the rooms and labs with some of the rooms offering docking stations to charge devices,” she said.

“Also in the two rooms that have desks, there are right and left-handed desks to accommodate students. The desk chairs are beautiful two-toned colors that are blueberry and lime green. The blueberry and lime colors run throughout the building.”

Young credits all those who played a hand in the renovation project.

“Special thanks to the Board of Trustees, President Russell, Donna McDaniel, Rick Boyette, facilities services, IT, and a host of others who played a critical role in renovating,” Young said.

Young said the renovations are refreshing.

“Student artwork is displayed throughout the building. We were also able to provide student artwork for the biology, chemistry, and social sciences buildings. The beautiful couches and sitting areas in the foyer will also serve as charging stations for students and give them a place to work between classes.”
